On the Issues

Too many politicians today DO NOT abide by the very Oath they take; many, if not most, lie for political gain.  They rarely argue about the Constitutionality of an issue but simply say something is wrong and/or they won’t abide by a specific law, especially when it comes to the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments.  When an elected, appointed, and career government official does not abide by the oath of office they took, that person should be removed from their position and be barred from holding office again.

Article VI of the Constitution specifically states, “[T]he Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

In this section, I will cite several issues of concern to both the citizens of the 3rd Congressional District and the country, as a whole.  This list of issues is not all-inclusive but I will respond to questions about other issues of interest to individuals, as needed.

If elected, I pledge never to vote for a law that I believe is unconstitutional.

National Catastrophic Health Insurance

As a parent of a young man with Downs Syndrome and suffered with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) when he was 2 years old, I sympathize with those Americans who have lost their wealth simply because a family member had a catastrophic illness or injury.  Not only have I seen this in other families, but in my own, when I was young.

My mother had Multiple Sclerosis and was using a wheelchair by the time I was ten years old. When I reached high school age, she not only had difficulty walking but also lost full use of her hands. She had seizures on a regular basis until they were controlled by medication – quite a few different types of medication, in fact.  These medications cost my father more than ½ of his weekly pay, barely leaving him enough money to pay all our bills.  On several occasions, we nearly lost our home, but my grandparents ensured we kept it.

My family is fortunate; as a child, we always had a roof over our heads and as a retired Marine, my son was treated at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP).  However, I have met several families that were not as fortunate.  While my son was being treated for leukemia, we met families of other children being treated at other hospitals, who talked about the high medical bills and one in particular, who said they had to sell their home to pay their bills – or face the possibility of losing it.

While I don’t support universal healthcare, I do support and, when elected, will propose a national catastrophic health insurance program, which all Americans will be covered.

This is a benefit that many Americans need if they are to have the opportunity to live the American dream.

Right to Self Defense

The Right to Self Defense is a God given right, enumerated within the Second Amendment to the Constitution. If we relinquish this right for a promise of "security," we will have neither the promised security nor the means to protect ourselves from the  tyranny that WILL assume power.

Returning the Power to the People

The political class has taken our nation “off course” by ignoring the Constitutionality of laws and regulations imposed on the American people, many of which put unfair and often impractical burdens on the American people.  They have also ignored a vital voting bloc - the inner city, economically disadvantaged Americans; mostly African American.

They seem more concerned with maintaining power for themselves and their respective parties.  That's exactly why Donald Trump was elected - he was elected because America didn't want another politician in the White House.

You have the opportunity to elect a non-politician to Congress; if elected, I will not seek more than 3 terms in office.

Opposition to Abortion

The most basic right of every American is the Right to Life.  As the father of a Down Syndrome son, I believe all life is sacred and am unapologetically pro-life.  Therefore, I will fight any efforts by the various state legislatures to legalize abortion after the first trimester of pregnancy or whenever a baby can feel pain. I will also fight to require medical personnel to render both lifesaving and life sustaining care to any baby born alive, no matter the circumstances were concerning it’s birth.  Bobby Scott (D-VA), with a 100% pro-abortion rating, would prevent health professionals from provide lifesaving or life sustaining care to a baby who would otherwise survive.

Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) demands that no restrictions be placed on abortions – he strongly supports infanticide that Governor Ralph Northam (D-VA) advocated in early February after New York legalized abortion until birth.

It’s time for Bobby Scott to retire.
